Members
January 24 would show people how members of 219 pitch in to help promote aviation. Any owners of an aircraft can obtain very low cost parking of their aircraft in building 113 on a first come first serve basis. Member of 219 have worked hard on plumbing, grounds, replacement of glass, providing a clean restroom, security, and cleaning of the hangar floor. We have a very good clubroom and shop for members, but for this we need the support of our dues. Members may rent shop space to work on projects and many thanks go to Ed Betts who allows members to use his tools.

Dues
Our secretary Wilma Cheney has reminded us that we need to recruit new members and pay our dues in January for the ensuing year. Officers of the local chapter are required to sign a renewal agreement, which includes the provision that all chapter members must also be in members in good standing in EAA National.
To support our facilities and other activities both National and our local chapter must maintain our liability insurance along with other expenses.
Treasure Cub Culbertson will accept your check for dues payable to:

Hangar Day
Broken window glass was replaced, and by all pitching in I felt we accomplishments a lot with little effort.
Member had a chance to visit the control tower and much more understanding takes place when one sees it from that end. It is impossible to remember all the questions asked and answered or relate the experience with words on paper, but I believe every one of us gained from the experience. I say this even though I had visited that same control tower many years before.
I think members will find hangar day great, especially in the area of the luncheon social.

Golly!

Time for another newsletter. Time sure goes by fast when you are having fun. It goes by pretty fast like this.
I thought we had a good hangar day last month and this month Jeff and I will have the fabric test frames ready for The hangar day. I want these days to be more fun and not so much work. If we do a little at a time maybe we can keep up with our landlord duties.
I want all of you to give some thought to the coming better weather and planning some activities for the chapter.
While our meetings at the hangar have been good let's not neglect some "Show and Tell" with member projects.
See you all at the meeting and I will tell you about the "Fairing
project I am involved in with the Fairchild.

EAA CHAPTER 219
January 16, 2001

Clubhouse, Building 113
Pendleton Municipal Airport

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 P.M. by President Ron Linn. Attending: Lois & Bob Potter, Roy & Shirley Clark, Harold Nelson, Wilma and Dave Cheney, Jon Pugsley, Jeff Guenther, Fred Tenney, Dwayne Patton, Jim Smith, Steve Jonas, Cub Culbertson, Floyd Slinker, Dave Kelly, Ed and Dee Betts.

Minutes of the November meeting were approved as printed in the newsletter. Treasurer's report was given. The chapter is in good shape.

Dwayne Patton reported that he has moved to Yakima and has made contact with people at the McAllister Museum of Aviation who are also active in thre Yakima EAA Chapter. They are interested in receiving our newsletter and in chapter get-togethers- a good idea which will be explored as the weather gets better. Dwayne said that the Oxford Suites Hotel in Yakima will give the coporate rate for overnight stays by EAA 219 members.

Ron and Bud reported problems with the newsletter in the transition to newsletter-by-email. They will keep trying for another 2-3 months and then re-evaluate. Tom Hutchison has done some work on the website.

Tom has studied the Compass Rose project and now has a good idea of what will be required and what will be feasible for us to do. The project will continue in the spring.

Ed reported that kids have broken several more windows on the southeast side of the building. He fixed 2 and 5 more remain to be fixed.

Calendars were distributed to those who had ordered and paid for them.

Dave reported that Walla Walla Flyers fly-out to breakfast is probably going to change format somewhat. Interest in joining them for this fun time was expressed. Dave will keep us informed as to what transpires. It was decided to move our building workday to the 4th Saturday in order to avoid conflict with their traditional 3rd Saturday. This means that the workday will not be held in February since the Northwest Aviation conference will be held then. The dates are February 24 and 25.

Cub reported and showed an example of the former NOS (now NACO) instrument approach charts which are now available from the Internet at no cost to AOPA members. They are available in several sizes including knee board. Dave reported that a 5% rebate will be given on most everything purchased from many FBOs, including gas, when charged to an AOPA Master Card. It's easy, works, and there are apparently no gimmicks. The bank pays the rebate, apparently for card promotion. Jeff Guenther reported a list of videos available through the FSDO. The list will be posted on the bulletin board.

Presiden Ron advised that he welcomes your e-mail however, do not send him any jokes. He does not have time to sift through them to get to the business stuff. Dave Cheney, Cub Culbertson, and Edd Betts say "ditto" for their e-mail.

Next meeting will be February 20 with the Clarks as hosts.

Wilma Cheney, Secretary

Keith's Wild Ride

I received the pictures on page 3 along with the story by e-mail from a friend of mine. What happened was an A-6 tanker wanted to apply a little positive and negative G to force a valve open. On the negative G the BN's (bombardier navigator) seat partially ejected putting the top half of him through the canopy. His helmet and mask were ripped off, and his arms flying behind him until he managed to pull them to his chest.

The blast of air distorted his features and made it impossible to breathe. His pilot had to quickly slow the aircraft and circle to land on the carrier. Jagged pieces of Plexiglas were in front of Keith's body but fortunately his chute had deployed and was tangled in the tail. When they landed and picked up the cable the chute harness kept his body from being punctured by the Plexiglas
