BOY !, Did I drop the ball on this one!
Here it is the week before the meeting date and I haven’t gotten my work done for the newsletter for the month of April.
I plead a birthday (mine) early in the month, Oregon spring break that got the Oregon grandkids in the house, Washington spring break, which got the Washington grandkids here. Also spring has sprung and we have been busy spraying crops. That’s my story anyway!
We are in the final month before the May 17th Airshow and there is much work to be done but much is already accomplished. The “Hayride” trailers have been 1st coat painted and made ready to haul people. If Ed would quit going into the hospital for rest breaks we would get all tasks completed.
Check out the “tent” we put up in our cook area. We had felt that area was a little too much like “elk camp” made an attempt to clean up that cooking area. We will need to be ready to cook breakfasts for the Airshow people on the Airshow weekend. That tent was made available to us for purchase, from Bob Potter, at a “brother-in-law” rate. Thanks to Bob.
Lee Dudek has worked on the green refrigerator, replaced a contactor in it, and appears to have solved the problem. Thanks Lee.
It rained last night and now the wind in blowing. I need to use this weather break to do some housekeeping details, of which, this is only one. So I had better send this to Jim Smith, our newsletter editor, and get busy!

CHAPTER 219, CLUBHOUSE, PENDLETON AIRPORT, March 18, 2003
President
Ron Linn called the March meeting to order. The meeting was started at 7
p.m. The minutes of the February
meeting were approved as printed in the newsletter. Treasurer, Cub Culbertson's report revealed our treasury to be in
good shape, and it was accepted by the chapter members.
Bob
Irving was welcomed as the newest member, and Keith Hamilton was a welcomed
visitor from the Kelso EAA Chapter.
Business
discussion began with Chapter 219's involvement in the B25 Weekend.
The
plan is to have at least two-flatbed trailers, converted into "people
haulers", which will have bales of straw inside them for seating. The
trailers will be pulled by tractors, and will provide a fun mode of
transportation for people attending the event.
A
work party was scheduled to take place at Ron Linn's shop on Saturday March
22nd beginning at 8:30 a.m. to convert the trailers.
Cost
of the materials for the project was estimated to be $200.00. A question was
put forth to the members regarding the cost of materials:
Should
we seek out sponsors to donate the materials in exchange for advertising space
on the trailers (a banner or company logo)? OR should we purchase the materials, get the trailers
completed, and then perhaps sell advertising
space to recoup our expenses?
Chapter
members agreed on the latter option.
Safety
was the next topic of discussion. It was agreed we will have "driver
meetings" to discuss safe transport during the event. Dee Betts suggested
that we could ask the Boy Scouts to ride along to help people in and out of the
trailers.
Baby
Ace Update: Cub reported that the use of nylon brushes, while applying the dope
to the fabric, caused a chemical reaction and resulted in an unacceptable
finish. It was recommended that the finish be sanded down and reapplied. Jim Smith reported the engine work is
nearing completion and "getting closer to firing up".
Wilma
Cheney reported that the Albany Air fair scheduled for 9/21/03 has been
cancelled.
Jim
Dubois recently made an awesome discovery. He found the original manuals to the
Link Trainers. When the time comes for renovation, having the manuals will make
the task a lot easier.
Jeff
Guenther, Young Eagles Coordinator, reported that the Hermiston Cub Scout group
wants to fly. There would be about 25 kids and a date was set for May 31st in
Hermiston.
2002
Certificates of Service Awards were presented:
Bud
Nielson - Newsletter, Cub Culbertson - Treasurer, Ron Linn - President, and
Wilma Cheney - Secretary.
The
meeting was adjourned at 7:55, and members enjoyed good cake, coffee, and
conversation. Thank you, Dee Betts, for the homemade cakes!

Boy did we have fun painting the primer coat on the trailers, white paint on everything. One more coat should do it. After the paint party was completed around 2 p.m.! We rallied 3 planes to Walla Walla Airport for lunch. The members that went were Cub Culbertson and Jim Smith in Cessna 152, Gene Harrison in his Christian Eagle, and Tom Rugg and Gary Zollman in his 140 Cessna. We had a good flyte over and superb food at the restaurant.
Ed Betts got his wing tips squared away and finished. He has the wings sealed in preparation for the fabric.
There is a possibility of a Little Eagle Fly at Hermiston. The tentative date is May 31st in Hermiston, Ore.
Sorry about the delay of the delivery of this bulletin. My guru computer seemed to have a mind of it’s own. Up and running again.
