We are getting ready to paint our Express S90.
Any ideas where to find good ideas on the internet or elsewhere?
Thanks

Allyn - As an aged hippy, I LOVE it! May have to rethink my paint job, if I ever get around to it

The May issue of Kitplanes has some web sites of interest on paint schemes

David, We just finished painting our factory RG, and it took 2 1/2 gallons plus 1 1/4 gsllons of reducer and required hardener.

I had my plane painted in 2006 .. here's info from the painter ...

An RV-6 comes in naked and goes out painted. We weighed in and out two of them. They gained 37 pounds, almost to a pound, both times. We currently have a Cessna 180 that came to us stripped, and we have the arrival weight so far.

If one uses Sherman Williams Expoxy Primer then you need two gallons sprayable.

1 1/2 Gallons of Primer
1 Quart Adduct
1 Quart of Reducer

On the base coat you need 4 gallons:

2 Gallons Sherman Williams Jet Glo
2 Gallons Adduct
Up to 10% reducer

The stripes will take:

1 Quart of "Color A" Sherman Williams Acry Glo
1/2 Quart of JET GL0 Adduct
Up to 10% reducer

1 Quart of "Color B" Sherman Williams Acry Glo
1/2 Quart of JET GL0 Adduct
Up to 10% reducer

To determine any additional weight by adding paint:

12 pounds per gallon colored, 10 pounds per gallon clear coat or 4400 grams and multiply by 75% transfer rate, the rest is overspray or evaporation.

Looks like somewhere in the neighborhood of 6 1/2 gallons (if you have color!). Depends on your approach & size of plane ...

Regards,

Chäz

I plan on painting my Express when I get back from Sun n Fun. I heard fiber glass might be damaged by the use of MEK. Should I use acetone instead to clean the aircraft before I paint

Where are some web sites that will give some paint designs for the Express? We have the sanding just about completed and will use the first coat of white and then I would like to put some design on the aircraft.
