We are getting ready to do our final Weight & Balance prior to the FAA inspection. What did everybody use to determine if the fueslage was "level'? The old WL 40 marks are long gone and the front seat floor is 1 degree different from the door frame opening. Does it really matter that much in the weight(s) ?

Follow-up question: What tension are flying CT owners using for the Rudder/Elevator cables (old system)? I had written down several yrs ago a suggestion of 70lbs for the rudder cables to ensure full rudder authority but our local A&P says this is too high, he says 40 lbs is plenty for both.

Glen, did you ever get an answer to this question? If not, just hang a plumb bob from the notch under the pilots door seal and when the point lines up with the rivet in the spar carry through your airplane is level in pitch and roll.

We ended up just using the lower door frame opening on the fuselage. It seemed to work just fine, and thank you for the response.

I have a weight and balance question for those flying the CT version of the Express.

In the technical documents part of this website there is the weight and balance sheet for N49EX and the Wheeler Express POH. N49EX shows the most forward arm as 74.69 inches and the most rearward arm as 84.95 inches. The Wheeler Express POH lists the most forward as 74 inches and the rear CG as 84.95 inches. The Datum can be placed anywhere so it appears that they both agree on the rear CG limit of 50.95 inches behind the front face of the firewall. N49EX has its front limit .69 inches behind what is in the POH.

What are you using for a forward CG limit?

On the main page of this website, www.express-builder.com, under Menu there is four items to choose from. Select "Technical Documents". On this page under "Various checklists,documents etc. from Reinhard Metz" choose "weight and balance spreadsheet" by clicking on either Excel or PDF. On the top of Reinhards weight and balance you will find the forward and rearward arms.
