Just today we tried to put the engine IO550N onto the the mount and Whoooo! it looks and sits awfully too high. We need to lower the engine ~1,5" to get sufficient clearence on the top for the upper cowling. Has anybody had the same problems on the Series-90 fuselage from EDI and what possibilities were best to cure? Werner from Switzerland |

So far I have no detailed instructions regarding TCM installation,my manual from EDI gives not many hints at all. If there is still a version available somewhere, I would be really interested. We discussed lowering the engine by putting more washers under the upper legs of the mount, but the force axis of the prop will change also. To what limit can we go? Werner |

Werner. Alan has put you on the right track. The extension raises the cowling by ~2". My impression is that you should also have the correct cowling for the TCM engine. I certainly would not be changing the thrust line of the prop. There may also be a lot of other unforseen problems occur as well if you start changing the standard arrangements for the enginge mounting. Regards. Kevin (from Downunder) |

Thanks Kevin, we will just lower the engine 0.5 inches and form a copy from the correct cowling. The price for freight to get a cowling over from the NW USA is about the same as the material necessary to make a copy, and nobody would know when there will be parts available again. But of course I have a small engines cowling new available for sale! Would anybody know how many layers of fibreglass there are laminated? I guess HG Schmid wouldn't like his sanded too much so to count easily the layers. Werner |
