nose gear suspension

Post by seanmcnally »

Can anyone please post photos diagrams or build manual for the nose wheel suspension.
I have bought a CT but it has had a previous acident and now only has been repaired with a fixed rod and no suspension.

Look in this section and find the message about "folder of documents" or something like that. Look around and you will find some of the 2000 docs. I'm not sure if the original CT docs have the install procedure.
Here is a direct link to the 2000 doc that may give you some help.

Also search for messages about nose gear issues and look at:

I was able to still access that page today.

I think it should be the doughnut shown in the manual. I'm not sure where wheeler got them. I dont think they were custom built. Mine is in a box some where. When I find it I'll look for a part number. Hopefully someone else on here knows the answer.

See PDF attachment. I found mine and it does look like it's a custom built part. You will probably have to get something made or perhaps someone on the forum knows of a source.

Here are some pictures of mine. It's been sitting in a box for a long time.
Mine does not have a lower bolt hole. I dont remember if I got it from Wheeler or Larry Olsen.
Looking for specs on the rubber disk has been difficult but I did find that Vans RV10 and RV14 use a similar nose gear setup. The loads on the RV10 would probably be somewhat similar to a Wheeler. The interesting thing is Vans uses 4 disc, like a Money NG. Where as Wheeler only uses 2.
I wonder if some of the nose gear issues are related to the shock strut bottoming out because there are not enough disc.

Hopefully this will help you.

Good Morning!
Would it be possible for some CTs to have left the factory without the shock absorber?
